Community Green Environment Initiative (CGEI)
The CGEI recognizes the value of the natural environment in our lives. However, the widespread extinction of plants and the destruction of habitat threatens these values. The main objectives of this project are:

  • to preserve, protect, maintain and manage environment and its natural resources
  • to improve the quality of life for local communities
  • to enhance individual fitness and health through physical work
  • to provide opportunities and space for inter-cultural exchanges and information sharing among local and international volunteers.

The project works with range of people from local voluntary groups, visitors/tourists, individuals, local schools to take green environment practical work (getting their hands dirty) targeting degraded areas and disavantaged communities or individuals. The initiative aims to make environmental projects benefit both volunteers and local communities. However, we also acknowledge skills and expertise of volunteers which make difference.

The weekly basis projects include:
  • Organic Gardening
  • Construction of Ventilated Improved Pit Latrine* (VIP)
  • Footpath Construction
  • Degraded Land Rehabilitation and Reclamation.

The tasks for these services run maximum of three hours (10:00 am – 13:00pm). The activities pertaining to this service take place in eight villages and two local primary schools.

The following is the schedule for these weekly events:
